This standard applies to sheet steel in sheets and rolls, tape, strip, rods, billet round and rectangular forgings and castings of carbon, alloy and high-alloy steels and alloys, and establishes General requirements for methods of ultrasonic testing.

By agreement between the manufacturer and the consumer, these control methods can be extended to the products of other types.

Methods of ultrasonic testing are: echo-method, shadow, mirror-shadow, echo-through, and their various modifications and combinations.

Data control methods are used to detect discontinuities within metal shells, cracks, gross slag inclusions, placenow, inversions crust, delamination and surface defects (shells, sunsets, etc.), which lies within the sensitivity of the methods.

The excitation of vibrations in a controlled object can be carried out by contact, immersion, inkjet, slot, or contactless methods.

Ultrasonic inspection can be performed using the longitudinal, transverse, surface and normal waves.

The sensitivity of ultrasonic inspection is installed on the agreed and approved in the prescribed manner to the control samples or with the DGS-diagram. Sensitivity control with shadow and mirror-shadow methods is established in the normative-technical documentation on the amount of attenuation of the amplitude of the last or bottom signals.

When the echo-through method, the control sensitivity is set by the logging level of the amplitude of the echo pulses from discontinuities, which is counted from the start of the level, in dB.

The shape and size of the control samples used, and the diameter or area of artificial reflectors and their distance from the transducers specified in the relevant standards and technical conditions on the controlled products or the methodology of control.

Terms and definitions — according to GOST 23829.

(Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

1. EQUIPMENT

1.1. For ultrasonic inspection can be used any flaw and installation with technical specifications, which ensure detection of discontinuity flaws of metal specified in the standards or technical specifications for products.

Flaw detectors, installation and control samples needs to be certified, and their parameters should be checked periodically in the prescribed manner.

1.2. The transducers should provide input of ultrasonic oscillations in controlled metal and the geometrical dimensions of the piezoceramic plates and their frequency should provide the necessary sensitivity and Deplete the ability.

1.3. The main control parameters (oscillation frequency, sensitivity, dead zone), the type and size of converters, circuits of inclusion and input method in the metal ultrasonic vibrations should correspond to the technical characteristics of flaw detector.

1.1−1.3. (Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

1.4. Electronic circuit devices and installations for automatic ultrasonic testing should include the monitoring of the stability of acoustic contact.

2. CONTROL

2.1. The metal surface must meet the requirements of normative-technical documentation on the control.

2.2. Method of relative displacement of the transducer and controlled surface metal (type of scan and scan rate) to ensure reliable detection and fixing of defects specified in the standards or technical specifications for products.

2.3. The signal appears in the control zone or the attenuation of the intensity passed through the metal ultrasonic vibrations indicates the presence of metal discontinuity.

2.4. The boundaries of the identified defective sectors are determined by the provisions of the transducer at the time when the amplitude of the recorded signal will change to the value specified in the relevant standards and specifications.

2.1−2.4. (Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

3. PROCESSING OF THE RESULTS

3.1. Check results of the automatic control is carried out by recording on defectogram after processing information on a computer or other logical devices as well as using directathletics. Mechanized and manual control mark defects on the metal can be carried out manually.

3.2. Inspection results are entered into the log, which shall include:

a) the document number, which is ultrasonic inspection, and the characteristics of the controlled object;

b) the type of detector and installation;

in) type Converter;

g) frequency of ultrasonic vibrations;

d) the type and number of the test sample;

e) the result of ultrasonic testing — the compliance or noncompliance with the requirements of standards or technical specifications for products;

g) the number of normative-technical document that defines the sensitivity of the controls and requirements of continuity.

3.1, 3.2. (Changed edition, Rev. No. 1).

3.3. The control sensitivity and defect sizes are set depending on the purpose of metal and are specified in the normative-technical documentation.

(Added, Rev. No. 1).
