Technical characteristics

Permalloys are characterized as iron-nickel alloys that have a relatively high permeability in weak fields. Permalloys are divided into low-nickel alloys (that contain to 50% of Ni) and high-nickel alloys (that contain to 82% of Ni) by their composition. A precision grade 79NM relates to the latter and contains 78.5 — 80% of Ni. Belonging of every alloy to concrete group depends on a degree of manifestation of electromagnetic properties. 79NM grade has a lower conductivity but a higher corrosion resistance. It must be alloyed with such elements as chrome, copper, molybdenum for strengthening of electromagnetic properties. A smelt is done in vacuum or inert gas environment. Sheets and strips are cold-pressed with the further annealing for increasing magnetic properties

Due to its small magnetostriction, an actual alloy is used in high-accurate units that have stable characteristics in a variable magnetic field. It possesses a small variation of electrical resistance (not more than 5%), which are defined by force and magnetic orientation. This alloy is used for manufacturing the transformer flakes, elements of magnetic recording heads, cores of small-sized transformers and contactless relays.
