Mill-products made of Hastelloy possess high strength and reliability. Along with similar chromium-nickel products, it is intended for manufacturing details that are exploited at a high temperature (not higher than 850ºС) in aggressive chemical environment. Nickel and chrome give the details made of this alloy a high corrosive resistance by providing an increased reliability of equipment. Such properties of a bar as ductility and plasticity give advantages when treating. The main demerit is a non-resistance in sulfide environment.

Alloy is smelted in open electric furnaces. It provides a minimal content of unnecessary residual elements. A high cost of steel is connected with an expensiveness of main component — nickel.
Rod surface does not oxidize at durable exploitation or at a high temperature. Such a rod is malleable. It possesses resistance in oxidizing atmosphere, in environment of ammonia, nitrogen. Lineal expansion coefficient = 13,7 (1/deg. К). Density = 8,9 g/cm³. Mechanical properties of a bar depend on its temperature. Load resistance will be maximal up to a temperature of 800ºС. Heat conduction coefficient in a temperature range 20 — 100ºС = 0,126 • 10² V/(m • К).
It is done with a help of argon-arc and electric-arc welding. There is used a wire HN65MW (HN65MWU) in the form of filler material for argon-arc welding. Electrodes OZL-21 are used for electric-arc welding. Welding joints are indisposed to appear of cold and hot cracks. They are resistant to intercrystalline corrosion.
Hastelloy can be taken to hot and cold deformation by almost all known types. During a hot deformation, a temperature range constitutes 1220−950ºС. Thermohardening is done at a temperature of 1070±20ºС with further cooling in water or in air. Cutting work is done at low speed due to a high susceptibility of metal to hammering harden. There must be used a tool that is fitted out with plates of rapid steel.
A lucky combination of alloy components allows using Hastelloy in various industrial spheres. By virtue of chemical resistance and lasting-quality, it is widely used in petrochemical industry, in manufacturing details of built-up or welding constructions that are utilized in making ammonia.
